USA Capital, SOS Partner to Wire Hospitality Industry

"Sure we were impressed with SOS’s deep technical project management and business process expertise in deploying Cisco technology solutions, but I have to be honest — what sold us about SOS was the company's personality. They were easy to work with and did what they said they would do."

Overview

USA Capital Corporation is one of the nation’s leading real estate lenders. With headquarters in Las Vegas and Nevada, USA Capital has originated, underwritten, funded and serviced loans to homebuilders, commercial developers and commercial property owners throughout the nation since 1989.

Challenge

USA Capital's management team identified a market opportunity in the Hospitality and Commercial Building industries. These industries require advanced technologies to achieve a competitive advantage, and are constantly driven to decrease costs by numerous competitive pressures and mounting construction costs. The team wanted to centrally deliver key network, telephone, video, wireless, and ongoing technical support services to these industries, but didn’t want to bulk up their technology expertise since it is not one of their core competencies.

Additionally USA Capital wanted to offer advanced technology such as Web services, Voice over IP (VoIP), high speed wireless Internet services and enhanced security, while keeping complexity and cost for new and existing properties to a minimum. In order to execute this new plan, USA Capital called on SOS, a leading provider of integrated advanced communications solutions for midsize and small businesses.

Solution

"We were introduced to SOS by one of our sister companies with whom SOS already had an established relationship and a positive track record," said Faisal Siddiqui, CIO at USA Capital. "Sure we were impressed with SOS's deep technical project management and business process expertise in deploying Cisco technology solutions, but I have to be honest - what sold us about SOS was the company’s personality. They were easy to work with and did what they said they would do."

Using the Precipia Hospitality software suite, Cisco CallManager, Unity, 2800 series routers, 3500 series switches, 1200 series wireless antennae, and PIX firewalls USA was able to provide secured network services to multiple properties over a single network infrastructure. Each property required multiple secured LAN networks for tenants, as well as secured Internet access. The advanced security features available throughout the Cisco product family were required to deliver this type of solution.

In essence USA had become a service provider. Utilizing SOS’s consultation and deep expertise, USA developed a combination of hosted and managed services for their tenants, while not adding additional technology staff to the USA payroll.

"SOS brought to the table a lot of standardization, formal methods, and design services which helped us to better meet our customers’ expectations," Siddiqui said.

SOS (formerly Special Order Systems) recommended a phased approach to USA. In Phase One, USA purchased network infrastructure and a single IP communications solution to provide services to its corporate headquarters in Las Vegas, a small six person reservations desk at a Las Vegas hotel, the USA Reno office, and a prime construction contractor in Reno employing 50 people. By providing hosted technology services to these companies, USA was able to cost justify the $230,000 investment.

Phase Two expanded the converged network. USA contracted with two hotels in Palm Springs, California, to use advanced communications services. This contract helped to fund USA’s additional investment into their core network and to expand the network to other regions.

According to Lawrence McNutt, SOS’s co-founder and Director of Professional Services, "USA continues to make a tremendous positive impact on post-implementation customer satisfaction because of the combination of Cisco Smartnet and SOS ServiceNet ongoing support." With the help of SOS’s support and direct manufacturer support through Cisco, USA's support team has immediate access to Level II support. This support has allowed USA to quickly respond and resolve support calls.
